ProfAgent: frequently asked questions

ProfAgent is an AI research assistant for professors and academic researchers. Here is what it is, what it does and how it works.

What is ProfAgent?

ProfAgent is an AI research assistant built for professors, postdocs and academic researchers. It puts twelve academic tools in one dashboard: journal peer review, revision response letters, a journal finder, a grant writing studio, grant discovery, a student tracker, a candidate selector, research writing and literature review, paper Q&A, research impact and citation tracking, a paper map, and a browser extension. Website: prof-agent.com.

Who is ProfAgent for?

Professors and principal investigators, research associates, postdocs, graduate students and research teams who want to spend less time on academic admin such as peer-review forms, grant searches, response letters and student follow-up.

What can ProfAgent do for peer review?

Forward a review invitation email and ProfAgent extracts the title, authors, journal, deadline and abstract. With the Chrome extension, one click imports the manuscript files and the journal's review questions from portals such as Springer Nature, ScholarOne, Editorial Manager, Wiley, MDPI, Frontiers and PeerJ. ProfAgent drafts a structured review with a summary, major and minor concerns and a recommendation, and can auto-fill the journal's review form. It never clicks Submit: the reviewer always checks and submits. See the journal review tool.

Can ProfAgent help with the second round of review after authors respond?

Yes. Start Round 2 on a paper and ProfAgent saves your first report as Round 1, then checks each of your earlier concerns against the authors' response letter and the revised manuscript, marking each as resolved, partly resolved or not addressed, and suggests an updated recommendation.

Can ProfAgent find research grants?

Yes. The Grant Assistant lets you describe your project, in text or by voice and in many languages, and ranks matching programs. It checks that each program link works and that the deadline is current, and it reads official sources such as the Canadian interagency program calendar. Coverage includes Canadian and US funding programs. Always confirm a deadline on the funder's own page before applying. See grant writing and discovery.

Is there a Chrome extension?

Yes. ProfAgent for Academics is on the Chrome Web Store. It imports peer-review assignments, files and review questions from journal portals, and fills in review forms. It needs a free ProfAgent account.

How much does ProfAgent cost?

There is a free plan with no credit card required, with monthly limits on AI use. Paid plans are Researcher from $19 USD per month and Professor from $29 USD per month when billed annually. See the pricing section for current limits.

Does ProfAgent work in languages other than English?

The interface is available in English and French. The chat features understand and answer in many languages, and voice input lets you speak your question.

Is my research kept private?

Papers, reviews and files are stored in your own account and are only visible to you unless you share a link. A deleted paper is kept in Trash for 30 days so you can restore it, then removed. You can delete your account and all your data from within the app.

How is ProfAgent different from ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini?

General AI assistants are flexible chat tools. ProfAgent is built around specific academic workflows and connects to them: it imports review assignments and files from journal portals and fills review forms, tracks rounds of review, matches grants with verified links and deadlines, drafts response letters, and tracks students and meetings. ProfAgent uses Claude from Anthropic for its AI features.
